Transition

Coos County Kids with special needs need transition planning. Transition from home to school, between schools and after graduation to adult life. Employment, recreation, health are all important issues to people with special needs. Kids with special needs tend to become couch potatoes after graduation as the necessary supports to continue learning, to be gainfully employed and to care for oneself are not available outside the family. This site attempts to show some resources that people can access to better their lives.

Transition From School to Adult Services

Young people between the ages of 18 and 22, with developmental disabilities and an IEP are legally entitled to stay in school. The school’s job is to provide education with services that prepare the student for transition to work, living and community inclusion. Young adults and their families are encouraged to clearly establish desired adult goals and maximize school resources to help achieve them.
